Born in Brussels, K.ZIA was exposed to the world of music from a very young age through her parents. Fast-forward to 2017 and she moved to Berlin to launch her career with a style that’s a blend of soul, R&B and pop. Then, in 2022 we joined forces during our Tough As You initiative for under-represented talent. Our partnership has since continued, and it’s clear that K.ZIA is only just getting started.

Tell us about you as an artist.
Through time, my answer to this question evolves. Right now I see myself as a multidimensional artist whose creativity is a translation of self. There’s a lot of variety in my art because it really is a cocktail of cultures, languages and input I’ve had from all over. The ingredients are endless.
What inspires you creatively?
I feel like I am here to share my emotional and personal journey to help people who may be going through similar struggles. My core need is a translation of an emotion, not because I dreamt it or saw it, but because I felt it. That’s why my music is always so personal. I use it to reflect and think without overthinking.

When did you first come across Dr. Martens?
I was about 12 years old when I received my first pair from my dad. I was disappointed as they were quite masculine and all I wanted at the time was girly stuff, but when I reached my later teen years, I was ready to wear them. To embrace my masculine and feminine side. And to create a style of my own. I ended up wearing them everyday for a long time and they are the oldest shoes I own!
How have you found being part of the DM’s family?
Dr. Martens definitely increased the machine power, helped me reach higher grounds and left me feeling like it was not only artists and activists trying to make the world a better place through love, fun and community. I felt like I was given the chance to execute my vision and I’m grateful that us working together has been more than a one-time opportunity.

K.ZIA will be releasing “NO REGRETS”, an afro R&B single about gratefulness and life, to mark her 30th birthday on 23.11.23.
