BOOT DOCTOR TIP: IT’S NEVER TOO LATE TO BRING A BIT OF SHINE BACK TO YOUR PATENT BOOTS & SHOES
STEP 1: YOUR KIT
Patent leather might mark fairly easily, but it cleans even easier. All you need is a couple of cloths, some water, a shoe brush and a bottle of Patent Cleaner. It shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes or so.
STEP 2: REMOVE DIRT
If it’s been a while, your boots will probably need a bit of wipe first. Give them a good clean all over with a damp cloth — rinsing and repeating if necessary. Remove your shoelaces and clean them separately, then dry your boots with a different cloth.
BOOT DOCTOR TIP: IF YOUR BOOTS HAVE LIVED A LITTLE, BANG THEM TOGETHER TO REMOVE ANY EXCESS MUD FIRST
STEP 3: GET TO WORK
Give the bottle a good shake, then spray the shoes all over. Wipe off any excess with a clean cloth, and ensure you finish with a smooth, even coating.
STEP 4: BUFF TO SHINE
Now it’s time to get that brilliant shine back. Grab your brush and start buffing. When your boots have a glossy even shine, leave them to dry for a few minutes.
BOOT DOCTOR TIP: A NEW PAIR OF LACES CAN GO A HELL OF A LONG WAY
STEP 5: RE-LACE
Almost there. Re-lace your boots, or customize them with a new pair, and finish with a squirt of Dr. Martens Shoe Freshener if needed. And there you have it: good as new.
