Thank you for speaking with us and sharing the design behind your DIY Docs. Could you introduce yourself?

My name is Duy Vo and my pronouns are he/him. I’m a New York-based architectural designer by day and artist, illustrator by night. When I’m not creating art, I like to spend my time cooking Vietnamese food and doing community organizing with my wife Thao. You can find my work at www.doodleschmoo.com or @duyschmoo.

Tell us about your first pair of Docs

My first pair of Docs were a brown Suede 1460 boot. I purchased them right around the time my wife and I started dating 12 years ago. They were super comfortable and I wore them almost every day.

Where do you draw your inspiration from for your art?

Lately, my work draws inspiration from Vietnamese food, home, and nostalgia. My illustrations and paintings help me cope and heal from trauma.

When did you know you wanted to be an artist?

There wasn't really a point in time when I knew I wanted to be an artist. I've always been interested in art and creating art. Whether its drawing, painting or experimenting with different media. It's just something that has always brought me joy.
