Introduce yourself

My name is Darian Ramirez. I'm 22 years old. I'm a Salvadoran-American singer and actor who grew up in Van Nuys, CA. I've been working at Dr. Martens for almost a year and a half.

What are your passions?

I love to make music, perform, and direct. I write a lot of music and some occasional poetry. Recently, I've been super passionate about baking. I'm not the best at baking, but it makes me happy to learn from my mom. I also used to be a barista, so I'm extremely passionate about coffee and tea. I've been experimenting a lot at home with different flavored drinks, which has been a lot of fun.

What was the inspiration behind the designs you created for DIY Docs?

I had originally intended to create something more intricate, with much less color, but I ended up literally binge-watching Pixar movies while creating these, and so it became more of an opportunity to express my inner child. In my life, I'm known for my colorful sense of style and radiant energy, so I figured why not make a boot that matches me.

Tell us about your first pair of Docs.

Wow. I got my first pair of Docs when I was around 15 or 16. It was a pair of Green 1460s that I got off Amazon. I remember choosing green instead of black, because they were cheaper. It didn't matter to me that they were brighter, because with boots as cool as these, I was already bound to stand out, so why not go all out? I've had them ever since and I love them so much. Before that, I never imagined being able to own a pair of Docs, but thankfully, I now have a bit of a collection going.
