Tell us about your connection to The Trevor Project:

I've been a long-time supporter of the amazing work The Trevor Project does. Its core message is that who you are is valid and valued and that you are not alone. That is incredibly important for every human to hear, especially the LGBTQIA+ youth. The Trevor Project provides essential, life-saving services to the LGBTQIA+ community, and it's deeply personal and important to me.

What was the inspiration behind the design for DIY Docs?

I wanted to make my 90s self proud and create something I'd love to wear, then and now. The design is fun, cheerful, and has elements representing my Latinx Culture. On the back, it says 'eres magia' (you are magic), which describes how I felt working on this project. I enjoyed every second of it.

How do we support LGBTQIA+ mental health all year round?

We can directly impact the mental health of the LGBTQIA+ community by becoming better allies and ensuring services such as those offered by The Trevor Project are available and accessible to everyone. Our action doesn't need to be complex to be impactful, and we also don't need to become leaders or experts before we can help. Look for organizations in your area, follow their lead and offer your support. I believe we can have a stronger impact if we participate in our community. Find the needs where you are [in person] or online and get involved if you can.
