Tell us about yourself.
I’m from Oregon and I am an Illustrator, and founder of Albanus Design.
How did you get started doing illustration?
I’ve been creating art for as long as I can remember but I started truly taking it seriously in 2016 with a hyper surreal dark psychedelic piece called The Space Between.
Are there any particular themes or ideas that your work has been focused on lately?
My work generally focuses on trying to understand the unknowns of the universe. Lately, I've been trying to create more grounded pieces that hopefully allow the viewer a chance to look within themselves.
Name your top five horror films of all time.
A Quiet Place, Silent Hill, Cabin in the Woods, Interview with the Vampire, and 30 Days of Night
What was the inspiration behind the designs you created for DIY Docs?
All of my works are a part of a massive ongoing story about a universe called The Stargarden. It features several recurring characters and it’s told in a non-linear fashion. When I was thinking about the design for these boots, I kept wanting to do something that somehow continued that story. The character featured on these boots is searching The Stargarden for someone who got lost in the darkness. He cares for this other being deeply. They share a star sign that binds their life energy. He knows that he’s on the right path every time he finds their sigil.
What do you do when you’re not working? Do you have any other hobbies or talents?
When I'm not creating art, I love to practice making different styles of coffee. I’m on a quest to discover the style that makes the best cup. Turkish Style is definitely my favorite so far. I love watching anime and reading manga; Tokyo Ghoul, Parasyte, and Seraph of the End are my favorites.
