Even if you like a weathered boot, there’s always a time and a place for a good polishing. Your boots will scrub up very nicely.
For smooth leather boots, our Shoe Polish is designed to restore, protect and add shine to Black, Cherry Red and Neutral leathers. Don’t just save it for weddings and job interviews, use regularly to keep your boots soft and supple.
“If you’re doing this as part of a routine, waxing with our Wonder Balsam or Dubbin Wax would be the first step,” says Brewer Street Store Sales Assistant, Marshall Mendoza Whitaker. “So that the leather has the optimal properties that you want in it: smooth, moisturized and no cracks.”
Polish is great for regular use: every four to six weeks, or as and when you want a spruce-up.
STEP 1
KIT
All you need is some newspaper, a couple of cloths, a bowl of water and your tube of Shoe Polish Cream.
STEP 2
CLEAN & POLISH
If you’ve already been wearing your boots, they’ll need a quick clean before you polish them. Place on newspaper and wipe them down with a damp cloth. Remove your shoelaces and clean them separately, then dry the boots with a different cloth.
If you are doing this as part of a routine, wax your boots first, with Dubbin Wax or Wonder Balsam.
Once they’ve dried, squeeze a pea-sized amount of polish into the sponge and apply a thin layer all over the boot, including the tongue.
Pay attention to any scuffs, scratches or marks, and make sure you get a good, even coating. Wipe off any excess with a cloth.
STEP 3
BUFF
If you want your boots to have a sharp shine, grab your brush and get buffing. If not, you can skip this stage. Then leave the boots to dry for a few minutes, and re-lace them.
STEP 4
REPEAT
If you think they need it, you can apply multiple coatings. Just make sure to let the first layer dry first. This should take about 15 minutes.
Start lightly and sparingly, dot it around and then work in circular motions where you feel like you need to go over scratches or even out the colour.
