We know you love your suede shoes. Just don’t love them so much that you’re afraid to wear them.
Armed with a little preparation and a quality brush, your suede DMs can handle all the adventures.
Start by giving them a spray with our Ultra Protector straight out of the box. It’ll create a seal against dirt, rain, UV rays and stains.
Once you’ve worn them, that fluffy suede nap can be restored with a brush. “Suede becomes flatter the more you wear it,” says Doc’s Footwear Designer, Charlie O’Byrne. “Use a suede brush and it'll bring back that lovely fuzz.”
STEP 1
KIT
All you need is some newspaper, a couple of cloths, a bowl of water, a suede brush and your bottle of Dr. Martens Suede Cleaner.
STEP 2
WIPE DOWN
If you’ve already been wearing your shoes, they’ll need a quick clean before you spray them. Place on newspaper and wipe them down with a damp cloth. Remove your shoelaces and clean them separately, then dry the shoes with a different cloth.
STEP 3
CLEAN
Give the bottle a good shake, then spray your shoes all over. Scrub gently with a clean, damp sponge or cloth. Once you’ve scrubbed the entire shoe, use the sponge or cloth to wipe lightly with clean water to remove excess cleaner. Be careful not to get the suede too wet. Leave to dry naturally.
STEP 4
BRUSH
Once your boots are dry, use the soft rubber side of your brush to sweep lightly over the suede. Make sure you brush in the same direction to keep your suede looking as fresh as possible.
You've really got to look after your suede. Beat up leather looks good. Suede does not!
