DIY DOCS:FAITH SAVORY

OUR STORE TEAM GET CREATIVE

The DM’s community have been keeping themselves busy with DIY hand-drawn designs on their boots and shoes. We checked in with Faith Savory to ask about her space-inspired boot illustrations.

Faith is a Senior Sales Assistant in our York store, and she’s turned to customisation in the last few months as an outlet for her creativity.

Can you tell us a bit about your designs?

I’m inspired by celestial things, so the moon and the stars, the night sky. There are some constellations on here as well and the same kind of stuff on the other side too. I do a lot of art and these are the typical kind of things I use as inspiration. So, with me customising my own pair, I thought it was important to do something that I’d like, because that’s what customising your boots is about: individuality and making something personal to you.

What did you use to customise your boots?

Here I am mainly using posca pens: one white one and one gold. They’re really easy to use because they’re quick drying. I waited about five minutes before going back over that section again to add some more detail and more pigment. I also used some paintbrushes and a little bit of water to correct any mistakes I made. That is something to consider while customising your own pair. If you’re working with a new leather, it might be worth testing out different ways on how to correct any mistakes.

Which pair are your current favourites?

Church Quad boots: I really like the vintage style they have and I find them super versatile. I can wear them with anything and everything, and I always get compliments on them as well.

“IT’S ABOUT INDIVIDUALITY AND MAKING SOMETHING PERSONAL TO YOU”

What do you do in your free time?

I do a lot of art, I really like making digital art pieces but recently I’ve been getting into more traditional art mediums, such as watercolour, ink drawing, gouache painting. I’m planning to get into acrylic painting in the next few weeks too. That’s one of the reasons I wanted to do this project, because it gave me a new outlet for my creativity, it was something that I’d never done before.
