Dr. Martens have partnered with renowned British photographer Gavin Watson to present a second capsule collection of limited edition printed t-shirts for the Spring Summer 2014 season. For this season’s collaboration, Gavin has photographed the t-shirts on close family and friends, and explains why these people are so important to him and what they stand for together.
Gavin’s photographic style and his documentation of British subculture make him the perfect fit for Dr. Martens and he has worked for the brand since 2011.
ABOUT GAVIN WATSON
Born in 1965 in northwest London, Gavin started taking pictures at an early age. By the time he was 14 he was a skinhead, immersed in the world of Doc Martens, Madness and Two Tone, and set about documenting the antics of his friends and especially his ‘muse’, his brother Neville.
‘Skins’, the best selling book based on his early pictures, was hailed as ‘ the most important photographic record of this unique subculture’ and it was followed by two others developing the theme, ‘Skins and Punks’ and ‘Raving ‘89’. He is regularly cited as an important influence, notably by luminaries such as Terry Richardson, quote ‘I think he’s (Gavin) a genius.’ and the film director Shane Meadows, who credited much of the look of ‘This is England’ to Gavin’s work.
