Etienne Conrad

DIY DOCS:ETIENNE CONRAD

OUR STORE TEAM GET CREATIVE

The DM’s community have been keeping themselves busy with hand-drawn customised shoes and boots. We caught up with Etienne Conrad, who works in Senior Sales at our Les Halles store in Paris.

Etienne has been working on a pair of monochrome white 1460’s, in celebration of our Original boot’s 60th anniversary in 2020.

Can you tell us a bit about your designs?

I chose to customise a pair of Mono White 1460 boots in honour of the style’s 60th birthday this year. The design consists of a Japanese crane, with Korean clouds and faded dots.

What did you use to customise your Docs?

I always start sketching with the colour of the shoe. Because these were white, I felt like I was able to trace without taking into account any mistakes since these wouldn’t end up visible in the end. It's not exactly the same white so with the correct light angle you can see what you do. I then lined the contours of the drawing using a 0.7mm black Posca pen, and filled in the drawing using colour and dots.

What Docs are your current favourites?

My favourite Docs are the 1461 Bex shoes, because they’re perfectly balanced between the upper shoe and the sole. You can adapt them with any outfit easily, because it fits with all seasons.
