In 1969, iconic British rock band The Who released their fourth studio album, Tommy.

The album was adapted into a film in 1975, starring Elton John as the flamboyant Pinball Wizard in towering Dr. Martens boots. This inclusion cemented the brand's place in pop culture through music, fashion, and subcultural identity. In 2019, DM’s released a commemorative boot to pay homage to Pinball Wizard’s original boots — albeit in a much smaller size.
