Re-working classic Dr. Martens silhouettes is always a challenge, but for Core Reinvented SS14 there is an expansive variety of new material updates to revitalise those iconic lines. Florals have long been a signature of Dr. Martens' individuality, and here the new and very English Vintage Rose Softy T leather subtly wraps around a 3-Eye, 8-Eye and Penny Loafer in subdued, sophisticated colours. Likewise, the two Wild Rose T canvases, which catch the eye with a deep sheen, neat binding and ribbon or standard laces. The new Union Jack Anarchy Fine Canvas is the boldest offering here, matching very potent British symbolism with a distressed and mutated finish. Although it can be traced back to mediaeval times, the polka dot in modern fashion really came to prominence in the 1950s and 1960s. On the 8-Eye Boot, 3-Eye Shoe and Mary Jane, the usual patterning of sized dots is instead mixed up in differing scales and colours and even differing quarters inside and out, to turn the classic look on its head with a bright, playful contrast. Alternate colour spines, unbound top-lines and proudly visible toe caps finish off the look.
