Dr. Martens is known for quality leather footwear and accessories for over fifty years. As a leader in leather goods, we know leather. The hides used for Dr. Martens footwear is sourced from North and South America, supplied from the countries with the largest herds of cattle. Hides are bigger than you would think—one side can be over 30 square feet. The shoe maker's job is to select the best sections of the hide, and form that into a boot. The butt of the cow creates the highest grade of leather, and is usually used for the vamp of the boot. Not all leathers are treated the same. Full-grain leathers are the strongest and most durable, where Nappa Leather is the softest and can easily be dyed or painted. The weight and grain of the leather changes the look of the boot. Some leathers scuff up and others can be polished for a dapper shine.
Durable and famously stiff to start, this leather can be polished to a dapper shine or artfully scuffed-up depending on your preference.
