Are UK shoe sizes the same as other shoe-size scales around the world?
UK shoe sizes are different from those in the US and Europe. For an approximate comparison, you can work out your size using our size-conversion chart, found on all of the individual product pages on this website.
What are the details of the warranty?
Dr. Martens offers a warranty against footwear manufacturing defects, but not wear and tear, fit, size or comfort issues. The only exception to this is our FOR LIFE range: this comes with a comprehensive lifetime guarantee. For more information on the FOR LIFE range: www.drmartensforlife.com
To resolve all other product queries, return boots or shoes to the place of purchase. We suggest talking to the manager there, as all retailers can return defective Dr. Martens footwear to us.
If you cannot return your boots or shoes to the retailer and believe them to have a legitimate defect, contact us with as much detail as you can about your situation. We’ll get back to you as quickly as possible.
Where can I get my shoes repaired?
Some problems are repairable, such as stitching on the upper, broken sandal straps and buckles. Dr. Martens does not have its own repair facilities, but any reputable shoe-repair shop should be able to cover these types of issue.
For customers living in the UK, there are two UK-based companies with specialist equipment; they can replace the soles on some Dr. Martens products: www.charlesbirch.com | www.timpson.com
It is currently not possible for soles to be replaced outside of the UK. If you have any queries, feel free to contact us and we’ll be happy to help.
How can I get replacement buckles, shoelaces or new soles put on my Dr. Martens boots or shoes?
The Dr. Martens distributor in your area may have replacement buckles and shoelaces available; a local shoe-repair shop may be able to help. Just complete the contact form and we’ll get back to you, as soon as possible, with confirmation about whether these items are available in your area.

Can I get a single replacement shoe?
Unfortunately, we do not sell single shoes. However, if you’re looking to purchase a single shoe because one has broken or worn out, it is possible to repair some problems (such as upper stitching, broken sandal straps and buckles). Dr. Martens does not have its own repair facilities, but any reputable shoe-repair shop should be able to cover these types of issue.
Is there a lifetime guarantee?
The only lifetime guarantee which we offer is on those products in the FOR LIFE range, sold exclusively through our official retail websites and stores. All products in this range have FOR LIFE marked on their sole, ie if they don’t say FOR LIFE on the sole, they are not covered by a lifetime guarantee. All other styles made by Dr. Martens do come with a warranty against manufacturing defects. This excludes wear and tear, fit, size and comfort problems.
Do Dr. Martens boots and shoes come in different widths?
Dr. Martens offers specific styles of Industrial footwear in different widths.
All of our footwear will vary in width, based on individual styles. Pointed toes and those with padded inner linings can make a shoe feel tighter. Wider toes will make the shoe seem bigger.
Are Dr. Martens boots and shoes waterproof?
Although all of our products are built to be exceptionally durable, we offer waterproof and water-resistant styles in our Industrial collection only.
For information on the water-resistant qualities of our Industrial footwear, please see the technical information in the Industrial footwear section of this website or contact our customer services department - they’ll be happy to help.
Do Dr. Martens boots and shoes have slip-resistant soles?
All Dr. Martens Fashion footwear is tested by an internationally recognised, independent third-party assessor, to ensure that everything produced meets industry guidelines for slip resistance.
Our Industrial footwear is designed and tested to ensure the compliance of its slip-resistance properties with relevant standards (ASTM in the US and EN ISO standards in Europe). For more information, please see the technical information in the Industrial footwear section of this website or contact our customer services department - they’ll be happy to help.
Are Dr. Martens a good boot/shoe to wear, if working in a restaurant?
Dr. Martens boots and shoes continue to be popular in a wide range of food and hospitality environments, owing to their air-cushioned sole. Dr. Martens cannot guarantee its products for environments where there is regular exposure to grease and oils. In order to extend the life of your boots and shoes, we recommend regular cleaning to remove dirt, grime and oil – with a mild grease-cutting soap and warm water.
Does Dr. Martens make safety shoes which meet ANSI/OSHA standards?
Yes, Dr. Martens Industrial safety footwear is built to achieve global standards recognised throughout Europe, Canada and the US. Among a wide range of specific safety features, the collections include styles which have ANSI Z41 PT 99 approved steel toes, as well as styles which are ESD rated. For more information, please see the technical information in the Industrial footwear section of this website or contact our customer services department - they’ll be happy to help.
Please note that the products in our Fashion range, with steel toes, are not ANSI/OSHA certified. Their steel toes are purely aesthetic and do not form a safety feature.
All of our ANSI/OSHA-certified steel-toe footwear will have information about this on the inside of the tongue of the boots or shoes. If they do not say that they are ANSI/OSHA-certified steel-toe footwear or if they state that the boots or shoes are part of our Fashion range, they will not offer your toes protection.
Does Dr. Martens make any non-leather shoes for vegetarians?
The vast majority of the footwear which we produce uses leather in its construction, whether for the uppers, linings, laces, welts or footbed.
To find out which leather-free styles are available in your area, please contact our customer services department - they’ll be happy to help.
Does Dr. Martens make custom-made footwear?
Dr. Martens does not offer a custom-made footwear service.
Can I buy a discontinued style?
The shoe business is seasonal, divided into spring/summer and autumn/winter seasons. Correspondingly, new styles are released every six months, for these seasons. Also, at that time, we do discontinue some of our older styles. Therefore, once those shops (which had stocked a style which has been discontinued) have sold out, you will no longer be able to buy that style.
Can I get a printed catalogue sent to my home?
Dr. Martens does not publish a printed catalogue. Please browse this website for available Dr. Martens products.
